How do I become a become a certified public Pool Operator?
There are two ways to become a certified operator.

1.  Attend the traditional 14-16 hour two day CPO® Certification course offered by a certified instructor. Check our schedule of classes we are offering or contact the instructor directly through Swim Pool Safe™.

2.  Complete a portion of your training online. Requires a computer with a high-speed internet connection. After successfully completing the online course you receive a record of completion from NSPF®. Next, enroll in a Pool Operator Fusion™ course and pay the fees to the certifying instructor. You have up to six months to complete the online Primer™ course. Contact Swim Pool Safe™ for more information. Details can be found on the ‘One-Day Course’ web page on our website.

What is Pool Math Primer™ from Swim Pool Safe™?
An
easy to follow course developed by Swim Pool Safe™ for students entering the CPO® Certification program that have weak math skills or lacking a clear understanding of formulas and how to apply them in swimming pool and spa applications. These formulas are necessary to complete many of the math problems used for calculations. This is a self-paced, self-study course that includes a 50 page textbook with many real world examples and written exercises to develop your basic math skills for use with swimming pool and spa related formulas. This product also includes a DVD with all the textbook examples for you to follow. The DVD can be played on a computer DVD drive or your home DVD player. A complete description of the Pool Math Primer™ can be found on this website. The Pool Math Primer™ will become a valuable reference textbook for day-to-day operations.

This is an excellent easy to follow textbook even for the high school student to follow or the homeowner who wants to know more about their chemical additions to pools and spas.

What is a Certified Pool Operator?
Is an individual who has attended a class for 14-16 hours of instruction and successfully passes a written test becomes a certified operator. Successful candidates receive a certificate to operate and maintain public swimming pool and spa facilities. Having certification meets many federal, state and local agencies and is recognized by health departments in the United States and is around the world.

Do I need to be a certified operator?
Maybe, many states, localities and businesses are requiring certification to manage public recreational water facilities. There are several states and localities, almost half of the United States requiring mandatory certification to maintain and operate public water facilities. Many states require some form of training or certification and those numbers are on the rise. Check with your state and/or local government for specific requirements.

How much does a certification class cost?
Check our online store. We take payment through our secure PayPal portal or you can pay with your credit card. All payments are safe and secure. We DO NOT keep any personal credit card information after the transaction is completed. Call Swim Pool Safe™ if you have any questions.

How do I enroll in a class?
The preferred method is to complete the online enrollment form and submit it. If you prefer, you may download either form as a Word file or as a .pdf file from the forms web page, complete and fax to our office and pay the fees.

How do I pay for the class?
You can pay for the certification course through our online store page using a valid credit card, debit card or by corporate check. Sorry no personal checks accepted. Corporate checks must be received two weeks before scheduled class dates. Contact Swim Pool Safe™ directly for other forms of payment.

Does Swim Pool Safe™ offer discounts if we send more than one person?
Yes, provided the business sends more than one person to the same scheduled class. Contact Swim Pool Safe™ for more information. Discounts are also available to businesses that would like to host a class.

Does my state require certification?
Maybe, several states require some form of certification to manage and maintain public swimming pools & Spas. Check with your state or local health department for current regulations. Requirements are under constant review by governing lawmakers.

What is the online course?
This is a course developed by NSPF® which offers the student an opportunity to complete a portion of their certification online using a high speed internet connection. Mainly for students who cannot devote two days from work to attend a traditional two day class. The course is the NSPF® Pool Operator Primer™ class (not to be confused with our Pool Math Primer™ class). The student receives an access code which can be purchased from Swim Pool Safe™ at a discounted price. A student works at their own pace up to six months to complete the first eight chapters of the certification process. After successful completion a student receives a certificate of completion from NSPF® to go on and enroll in the Fusion™ class to gain certification. What is the one-day course?
This course is for someone that has completed the NSPF® Pool Operator Primer™ Online course and wants to complete their training to receive CPO® Certification. This course is conducted in the classroom with a certified instructor. You receive the remainder of lessons from a certified instructor, take an exam and if successful receive CPO® Certification from NSPF®. How long is certification good for?
Certification is good for five years from successful completion of the training course. Before your certification expires you must be enrolled and pass another CPO® Certification course to remain in good standing as an active operator.

My certification is about to expire or is expired. Can I just take the exam?
No. Due to new developments in the pool and spa industry every year you are required to enroll in a CPO® Certification course in your area before your certification expires. Check our class schedule for a list of classes available or check the NSPF® website.

I already have a handbook. Can I use it to retake the class?
In most cases no. Content in the handbook is under constant review and revision every year as new procedures and developments are introduced into the pool and spa industry. The exception maybe if you took the class over inside the one year before the handbook is updated. If you think you have a current version contact the instructor to find out what the current revision is of the handbook. Student handbooks are included in the cost of the class. Handbooks may also be purchase separately through our online store.

What is the NSPF® Pool Math workbook?
Not to be confused with our Pool Math Primer™ course. This is a workbook from NSPF® that has pool and spa related examples. This is an excellent companion to the student handbook used in the classroom and is a good reference book.
